The Challenge

Streets Heaver is a leading healthcare technology and software provider, delivering innovative solutions to healthcare organisations across the UK. As a certified B Corp, the company is committed to sustainability, social responsibility and ethical business practices, continually looking for ways to positively impact its people and the wider healthcare sector.

For many years, Streets Heaver has supported employee mental health, with initiatives including Mental Health First Aiders and access to wellbeing support. However, the team recognised that physical activity also plays an important role in improving mental wellbeing and resilience.

“We’re having more conversations around stress and mental health challenges, but we can only signpost people to support,” explains Stephine Robinson, Learning and Development Manager. “Myzone is one of those adjacent tools that helps people improve their mental wellbeing without them even realising it.”

The company had run wellbeing initiatives in the past such as step challenges. While these had generated some engagement they weren’t inclusive, favouring walkers and runners and excluding employees who preferred other forms of exercise such as cycling and swimming.

The business wanted a solution that would:

  • Encourage sustainable, long-term healthy habits
  • Support physical and mental wellbeing
  • Create opportunities for social connection
  • Be inclusive of all fitness levels and activity preferences
  • Align with Streets Heaver’s B Corp values and people-first culture

The approach

Streets Heaver introduced Myzone in August 2023 with a pilot programme involving 10 employees. This allowed the team to understand engagement levels, identify barriers and establish a realistic target before introducing the technology company-wide. Following the pilot, the company established a target of 2,000 Myzone Effort Points (MEPs) per month.

Myzone was rolled out across the business in November 2023 and today, all employees are offered a free Myzone Switch device.

“We can’t force wellbeing onto people, but we can provide opportunities that help people help themselves,”

To provide encouragement, Streets Heaver offers employees an innovative incentive. Those who achieve 2,000 MEPs for two consecutive months earn an additional half day of annual leave. This can equate to up to three additional days of holiday per year.

Importantly, MEPs must be earned in the blue zone or above, reinforcing the importance of meaningful physical activity while still remaining achievable.

The Results

  • Strong engagement
There is strong Myzone engagement among Street Heaver’s employees with approximately 67% of the workforce actively using Myzone. Around 40% are consistently achieving the monthly 2,000 MEP target.

  • Reduced absences
One of the most significant outcomes has been the impact on employee absence. The company has seen a 30% decline in sickness days. Employees using Myzone average 1.8 days of sickness absence per year compared with 6.1 days for those not using Myzone. Based on this difference, Streets Heaver estimates that approximately 297 additional working days were recovered during the reporting period. While several factors contribute to wellbeing, Streets Heaver believes increased physical activity and improved overall wellbeing are playing an important role.

  • Lasting behaviour change
Myzone has encouraged employees to try new activities, develop new habits and take on challenges they may never previously have considered. One of the company's highest MEP earners is an older employee who primarily walks for exercise. Since using Myzone, he has developed a consistent routine that includes walking before work, during launch and hiking at the weekend with his wife.

Other employees have also transformed their lifestyles: Jenny Watson, HR Officer & Compliance Assistant, says: “I was mainly doing gym workouts before Myzone but started running to earn MEPs. I progressed to 5k runs and went on to complete my first marathon this year. I’m now training for my first triathlon. Myzone was definitely the spark for all this.”

  • Building a culture
Streets Heaver believes one of the greatest benefits of Myzone has been the culture it has helped to create. Today, conversations about weekend hikes, Parkruns, cycling events and gym sessions have become part of everyday life at Streets Heaver. Employees organise padel matches, tennis games and lunchtime runs independently, while the company running club continues to grow. Exercise has become another way colleagues connect - not because they're asked to, but because they genuinely enjoy it.

Why it works

  • It rewards consistency
Rather than focusing on elite performance, Myzone rewards sustainable behaviours.

“We’re rewarding consistency, not intensity. Small habits repeated over time can have a big impact,” says Robinson.

  • It is inclusive
Unlike step challenges, Myzone recognises all forms of physical activity, allowing employees to exercise in ways that suit their interests and abilities. Whether employees prefer to walk, run, cycle, swim, play tennis or attend fitness classes, everyone has an opportunity to succeed.

  • It supports mental wellbeing
Physical activity is closely linked to improved mental health, stress reduction and increased resilience. Beyond exercise itself, Myzone has helped create social connections and communities that can positively impact employee wellbeing.

  • It strengthens company culture
Friendly competition, shared challenges and conversations about activities outside work have strengthened relationships across the business. Employees motivate each another, celebrate achievements together and organise activities independently.

  • It enhances the employee experience
Myzone has become a valued employee benefit.  “We get asked about Myzone a lot during interviews. Being offered this high-value piece of tech when you join creates a really positive first impression,” says Watson.

Looking Ahead

Introduced as a wellbeing initiative, Myzone has become a catalyst for healthier lifestyles, stronger social connections and a more engaged workforce. The technology aligns perfectly with Streets Heaver’s B Corp values and gives people the tools, encouragement and opportunities to improve their own wellbeing for a healthier, happier and more socially connected workplace.

“As an employer, we are confident that with Myzone we are doing everything we can to help people to help themselves,"
