Create the ultimate Myzone-driven gym environment for member retention
by Ben Hackney-Williams on Thursday, 24 October 2024
Ensuring that any heart rate training environment is easy to understand and use for both gym staff and gym members is key to ensuring that everyone gets the most out of a tech partnership.
Here’s how you can build the most effective Myzone environment in your gym before onboarding staff efficiently, so that your community can train with you for longer. Keep them excited to use heart rate training tools that effortlessly integrate with everything you do.
The physical set-up of your Myzone environment
The physical set-up of the Myzone system is essential to improve staff understanding and a more positive member experience.

However you choose to build your Myzone package, you should easily be able to access and control the software while in the middle of the chaos of a busy gym. The most effective solution is using a Myzone touchscreen or through the Myzone app, rather than having to rely on using a keyboard behind the scenes.
High speed internet connections in the gym
It should go without saying that most gyms these days need a stable and reliable internet connection in order to provide the best experience for members, but sometimes it’s easy to forget some details that make the difference.
When it comes to setting up Myzone, or any tech-based integration, internet speed is always a determining factor. You'll need a reliable internet connection of at least 5Mbps.
You'll need a screen to display Myzone tiles for your community, too. This could be a TV or a projector, for example (it can also be multiple TVs).

In the excitement of setting up the perfect place for performance, it’s sometimes easy to forget environmental factors that can be challenging for signal strength. Boutique gyms in the depths of a basement, for example, sometimes struggle to get enough signal strength unless this is specifically considered.
If you’re starting out, think about the placement of the router and whether it’s restricted due to thick walls or between floors. The same goes for any outdoor space, even when relying on the Myzone app for boot camps.
Boost your internet connection or signal strength wherever possible, and you’ll boost your member experience while they’re working out.
How should I layout my gym and Myzone screens?
Classes can be confusing if not carefully planned out from a member experience perspective. What seems like the best place for a Myzone screen in the planning stages may not be most effective when members are mid-workout, looking for guidance.
Your Myzone TV, tiles display, and receiver should all be facing forward when it comes to classes and programmed activity. This ensures that everyone has easy access to the same important information and visual feedback, removing any barrier to understanding and driving that group exercise feel-good factor.

Engaging as many members as possible through self-serve effort feedback also frees you up as a fitness professional to focus on any individuals that may need one-to-one guidance in the moment.
Giving everyone the same focus unites individuals and ensures that everyone’s part of a shared experience that will stick with them well after they leave your four walls.
