How to create a Myzone Challenge to engage your gym members
by Ben Hackney-Williams on Tuesday, 18 February 2025
Are you looking for a powerful way to boost gym member motivation, retention, and engagement? Creating a Myzone Challenge is an easy and effective way of inspiring friendly competition while helping members stay consistent with their workouts.
Whether you’re aiming to increase Myzone Effort Points (MEPs) earned in your space, encourage heart rate zone training in general, or looking to drive participation in a specific fitness programme, challenges are the perfect solution.
A well-timed challenge can change how gym members think about consistency. Follow these simple steps to set up a Myzone member challenge and watch your community come together through fitness.
Step-by-step guide to creating a Myzone Challenge
1. Log in to your Myzone admin portal
To get started, log in to your Myzone admin portal using your account credentials. This is where you’ll manage all aspects of your challenge, track member participation, and monitor engagement.
2. Navigate to the "Challenges" section
Once inside the admin portal, locate and select “Challenges” from the main menu. This is the page you need for setting up new competitions or modifying existing ones.

3. Click the ‘Plus’ icon to create a new challenge
Tap the ‘Plus’ icon to begin setting up a new challenge for your gym members. This is where the fun begins.
4. Select “Members” and name your challenge
Choose the "Members" option to create a challenge for your community. Then, give your challenge a catchy, motivating name. Make sure it’s something that will inspire participation.
Examples include:
- For The Love of Movement
- March MEP Madness
- Heart Rate Hero Challenge
- 30-Day Fitness Streak
5. Choose your date range or MEP target
Decide whether you want to run your challenge for a specific timeframe (for example, a week, month, or longer) or set a Myzone Effort Points (MEPs) goal for participants to hit.
Timed challenges create urgency, while MEP-based challenges reward consistent effort. Both bring out that competitive spirit throughout a community, and both offer the opportunity of friendly boasting on the ’gram!
6. Select the heart rate zones that count toward MEPs
Myzone allows you to customise your challenge by selecting which heart rate zones contribute to MEP earnings. You might choose:
- All zones (inclusive challenge for all fitness levels)
- Only yellow and red zones (intense training focus)
- Blue and green zones (steady-state endurance training)
This flexibility ensures that your challenge aligns with the fitness goals and abilities of your gym members.
7. Click the green check mark to complete set-up
Once you’ve finalised your challenge details, click the green check mark to confirm and launch your Myzone Challenge. Your challenge is now live!
Next steps: Promote Your Myzone Challenge for maximum engagement
Now that your challenge is set up, it’s time to get your members excited! Here’s how to maximise participation:
- Announce it in your gym: Use posters, digital signage, and staff promotions to spread the word.
- Send an email blast: Notify your members about the challenge, including the start date, goals, and how to participate.
- Use social media: Post updates, leaderboard rankings, and shoutouts to participants crushing their goals.
- Encourage staff involvement: Trainers and coaches can help boost engagement by encouraging members to join and stay active.
- Offer incentives: Consider rewarding top performers with prizes, exclusive perks, or recognition on gym leaderboards.
- Get recognition: Tag Myzone on social throughout the challenge – especially with the winners!
