Olympic gold medalist Marleen Jochems: Training smarter and recovering stronger
by Myzone on Thursday, 11 September 2025
More motivation, smarter training, and stronger recovery. This is how gold medal-winning Olympian, Marleen Jochems, embraces effort and purpose in every training session.
For elite athletes, every percentage point of performance matters. Dutch national hockey player and Olympic gold medalist Marleen Jochems knows this better than most.
Staying at the top of her game isn’t just about hard work on the pitch, it’s about training with purpose, motivation, and precision.
That’s where Myzone comes in. By turning effort into insight, Myzone gives Marleen the confidence to push harder, recover smarter, and keep chasing her career goals at the very highest level.
From recovery to revelation
“I was first introduced to Myzone at David Lloyd Club, Amsterdam, where I became a regular at their high intensity BLAZE classes in 2020,” she says.

“At the time, I was also recovering from a torn knee ligament that stopped me playing for four months.
“At this time, and to help speed up my recovery, the gym became my second home. This is where I really started to understand the value Myzone could add to my training both inside and outside of the gym.”
What began as a recovery aid soon became a daily training companion.
Off-season edge, in-season confidence
Today, Marleen uses Myzone to gain control over her own training, especially during the off-season when there’s no coach on the sidelines.
“In the off-season, I use Myzone most days,” she explains. “During the playing season, I use my it about twice a week outside of the official coached sessions.
“It gives me precise control over my workout intensity, whether I’m training for cardio or strength and allows me to manage my own training effectively and safely, supplementing my club run sessions.”
Myzone’s effort-driven data allows her to train with confidence. This ensures Marleen is never underdoing it, and never overtraining.
Zoning in on performance
The power of Myzone lies in adapting heart rate zones to each individual. For Marleen, that’s a game-changer.
“What makes Myzone unique is its ability to adapt its zoning to my fitness level and clearly show which heart rate zone I’m training in.
“It's really useful when I need to be alternating between aerobic and anaerobic sessions.”
This adaptability keeps motivation high and ensures that every session delivers the right training effect.
Training with confidence
Data is only valuable if it empowers better decisions. For Marleen, Myzone provides the insight to balance effort with recovery.
“Sometimes a session feels extremely demanding, but the Myzone app shows my heart rate hasn’t reached its maximum.

“That helps me recognise when other factors, such as poor sleep or accumulated fatigue, might be at play and affecting my ability to accurately judge exertion.
“Myzone’s heart rate data enables me to take more guided control over my training and gives me confidence that every training minute is delivering a positive training effect.”
This is how to drive motivation – not just tracking workouts, but guiding every move.
Chasing the next goal
After six years playing with Hurley in Amsterdam, Marleen now plays for SCHC in Bilthoven with her eyes set on the European Hockey League, the Dutch league title, and a national squad spot at the European Championships.
Many hockey players rely only on team systems, but Marleen sees untapped potential in athletes taking personal ownership of their performance with Myzone.
“I wholeheartedly recommend Myzone to other competitive athletes,” she says. “I didn’t want a device I had to wear all day that counts every step or logs my sleep routine.
“Myzone’s focused approach is ideal. It’s built for training and that’s exactly what I need.
“For personal training and recovery management, it provides exceptional value. It’s something that could benefit many athletes across different sports.”
Training smarter with a new source of motivation from Myzone
As Marleen continues her pursuit of European and international success, she knows it’s not just about effort, it’s about effort with purpose.
Thanks to Myzone, she has the tools and motivation to keep improving, every session, every season.
