Heart Month: Move more, live stronger with Myzone
by Ben Hackney-Williams on Friday, 14 February 2025
February is Heart Month, a time to focus on the engine that keeps you moving – your heart.
Cardiovascular health isn’t just about exercise; it’s about understanding your effort, making movement a habit, and staying motivated to keep going. That’s where Myzone comes in.
With real-time heart rate tracking, effort-based rewards, and community-driven support, Myzone helps people train smarter and build habits that strengthen heart – long after Heart Month is over.
Why Heart Month matters
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. The good news? 80% of heart disease and stroke can be prevented through regular physical activity using a heart rate monitor, a balanced diet, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Originating in the US, Heart Month has expanded internationally. Many countries recognise February as a time to promote heart health awareness through campaigns, events, and initiatives.
Organisations such as the World Heart Federation also observe World Heart Day on September 29 to further emphasize cardiovascular disease prevention on a global scale.
Heart Month is a reminder to take action today for a stronger tomorrow.
The risks behind not looking after your heart
The New York State Department of Health published a release stating that lifestyle modifications and interventions could prevent up to 80% of heart disease and strokes.
“The risk of cardiovascular disease can be greatly diminished when people take steps to make positive lifestyle changes like never starting to smoke or quitting smoking, increasing physical activity and eating well,” explained State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald.
“American Heart Month is a great time to spread awareness about the impact of cardiovascular disease and how to prevent heart attack and stroke.”
Heart Month by the numbers
Around the world, Heart Month is a time to acknowledge the huge personal and societal benefit of looking after your heart. For example, Myzone has been used for improving both mental health and physical wellbeing at NHS Foundation Trust. But there's still a long way to go.
Research from the British Heart Foundation has shown the state of play with heart health in the UK.
- There are over 7.6 million people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK – over 4 million males and over 3.6 million females.
- An ageing and growing population and improved survival rates from heart and circulatory events could see these numbers rise still further – they forecast that there could be 1 million more people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK by 2030, and 2 million more than today by 2040.
- BHF estimates that half of the UK population will get a heart or circulatory condition in their lifetime.
- Around twice as many people are living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK than with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease combined.
- Heart and circulatory diseases cause around 26% of all deaths in the UK; that's more than 170,000 deaths a year, or 480 each day – one every three minutes.
- Around 49,000 people under the age of 75 in the UK die from heart and circulatory diseases each year.
How does Myzone transform the heart health of communities?
By implementing a simple Myzone set-up in the gym, fitness professionals can drive progress and achievement for their members with a focus on simplification, gamification, and community.
Effort over everything
Myzone’s MEPs (Myzone Effort Points) reward you based on how hard you work, not just how far or fast you go. It’s heart rate training that meets you where you are and keeps you motivated.
Track, improve, repeat
See real-time feedback on your heart rate zones and understand how every session benefits your cardiovascular fitness. More effort = a stronger heart.
Community that cares
With Myzone, you’re not training alone. Connect with others, join challenges, and get the motivation you need to stay on track.
Gamify your heart health
Heart Month is the perfect time to set new goals. Whether it’s hitting 1300 MEPs a month or crushing a Valentine's Gym Challenge, Myzone helps you turn movement into a lifelong habit.
Make every move count this heart month
Your heart works for you every second of the day – give it the attention it deserves. This February, commit to smarter training, more movement, and a healthier future.
Ready to help more members look after their heart? Get started with Myzone today and make every heartbeat stronger.
